The Department

  • extends psychological support to people affected by leprosy, addressing their fears and stigma, helping early detection and reporting, improving treatment adherence and quality of life.

  • helps with interventions to face consequence of stigma in leprosy and similar conditions such as vitiligo, psoriasis etc.

  • offers counselling for other stigmatizing diseases like HIV/AIDS.

  • provides psychiatric services to people with leprosy and other diseases. 


The department carries out research on interventions relevant to problems in leprosy.

Taking Counselling to the Community

The department plans to train grass root level and other health workers in the community on basic counselling skills, in order to provide counselling services in a community-based set up. The department would be happy to welcome volunteers and elective students to help with counselling and research projects.
