DIPLOMA IN GENERAL NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

At the end of the course the student will receive a DIPLOMA IN GENERAL NURSING AND MIDWIFERY, from Board of Nursing Education (Nurses’ League) of CMAI, South India Branch. The course is recognised by the Government and the Nursing Council of Tamilnadu & Indian Nursing Council.

All students have to work as Junior Staff Nurses for an additional period of 1 year to gain additional experience.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

  1. Only Women candidates are eligible to join this course
  2. Candidates should have completed 17 yrs . They can be a maximum of 22 yrs of age (relaxable upto 35).
  3. Pass in “10 + 2” examination or equivalent with 40% aggregate marks.
  4. 10+2 Vocational ANM course / ANM training from institution recognised by the Indian Nursing Council.

Special Information Relating to Admission

The student shall be considered to be only PROVISIONALLY admitted until the Karigiri School of Nursing authorities have received the verification certificates of the SSLC and Plus 2 marks from the respective Examination Boards. Final acceptance of the student into the course will be made after a preliminary assessment of the student, at the end of the first 3 months

Internal Assessment Examinations

Internal examinations will be held and students should score a minimum of 50% in each paper to be permitted to take the CMAI Board External Assessment Examinations.

External Assessment / Annual Board Examination

Annual Exams are conducted by BNESIB of CMAI. Students can appear for exams on completion of all requirements and have to score 50% to pass.

Students who fail are required to repeat the year of study and have to pay Tuition fees for the entire year (Academic and Hostel/Mess).

DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNOLOGY

The course prepares Medical Records professionals to handle a variety of activities in maintaining medical records in health care facilities such as preparation of reports and hospital statistics, including ICD–10 coding etc.,  At the end of the course, the DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNOLOGY, is awarded by CMAI.

No of seats: 8.             Duration of course: 2 years

Eligibility:

Pass in Plus 2 / HSC, or equivalent, preferably with Science background. However, candidates from Non-science streams may also apply.

Other Information

Exams: Internal exams will carry 10% of the total marks for the final exams. CMAI Board exams will be at the end of 12 months and 24 months.

DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

The course provides training to undertake basic investigations in all aspects of Medical Laboratory Technology. At the end of the course, the DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY, is awarded by CMAI.

No of seats: 10.             Duration of course: 2 years + 6 months internship

Eligibility for Admission

Age: Minimum 17 years, and maximum 21 years, as on August 31. 2015.

Pass in Plus 2 / HSC, or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Botany and Zoology separately, in not more than 2 attempts.

Exams: Internal exams will carry 10% of the total marks for the final exams. CMAI Board exams will be at the end of 12 months and 24 months.

DIPLOMA IN RADIO DIAGNOSIS TECHNOLOGY

The course prepares candidates to be able to take, process, store and retrieve Radiographs (X-rays). Candidates will be taught safety precautions and various techniques for the taking and manual processing of X-ray films.  At the end of the course, the student receives a DIPLOMA IN RADIO DIAGNOSIS TECHNOLOGY, awarded by the CMAI.

DIPLOMA IN PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS

The course prepares candidates to meet the growing requirement for professional fabrication and fitting of Prosthetics (artificial limbs) and Orthotics (assistive devices such as calipers).  At the end of the course, the student receives a DIPLOMA IN PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS, certified by the Rehabilitation Council of India (A Statutory Body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment) Department of Disability Affairs. ( Validity 2001 - Till date vide RCI certificate No INS TN/ 157 , TN / 476 , DPO / RCI 6221 ) Government of India.

Pass in Plus 2 / HSC, or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry + Biology or Maths with minimum 50% marks in these subjects.

 DIABETES CARE AND PODIATRY EDUCATION

The course prepares candidates to meet the growing requirement in the field of diabetic assessments / diabetic health education as well as in the assessment and treatment of other foot conditions. At the end of the course, the student receives a DIPLOMA IN PODIATRY

Eligibility for Admission

  1. Pass in Plus 2 / HSC, or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry & Biology (or Botany & Zoology separately), with at least 40% marks in each subject (35% for SC/ST candidates).
  2. For BSc (P&O), Maths instead of Biology is permitted.
  3. For BSc (P&O), minimum 50% marks in all subjects.
  4. For BSc (Medical Sociology), any subjects in 12th class are acceptable.
  5. Age: Minimum 17 years, as on December 31, 2015.

Other Information

  • Candidate has to have minimum attendance of 90% in all subjects
  • 50% of marks separately in Theory and Practical exams of University
  • University exams are held on 1st August each year.
  •  University rules may change from time to time and internship for various courses may be made compulsory during the period of study.
  • Candidates other than Tamil Nadu State board have to obtain ‘Eligibility Certificate” from the University.

B.Sc.,(Medical Laboratory Technology)

The course trains students in Medical Laboratory Technology and provides advanced skills to practicing laboratory professionals in health administration, leadership, quality assurance and health informatics.

                                                              B.Sc.,(Radio Diagnosis Technology)

This course trains students in Radio Diagnostic Technology, Imaging, and related modalities. The student learns basic concepts of computer applications in diagnostic radiology and imaging. They become proficient in producing x-ray films of high quality and diagnostic value.

B.Sc. (Medical Record Science)

 The course trains individuals to be able to scientifically run Medical Record Departments in Health care centres. They will be able to generate various hospital and health-related statistics, and undertake coding, filing, retrieval and maintenance of paper-based and electronic medical records.

B.Sc. (OPTOMETRY)

 This course trains students to independently undertake vision screening (eye testing), diagnosis of vision problems, orthoptics, optometric counseling of patients with partial sight, colour blindness & hereditary vision defects, designing & fitting of spectacles, contact lens and low vision aids. The student who completes this course will be able to perform special investigative procedures, maintain ophthalmic instruments in both the operation theatre as well as in regular practice.

B.Sc. (Prosthetics and Orthotics)

 The course trains students to become competent to undertake examination, prescription, design, fabrication and fitting of artificial limbs (Prosthetics) and assistive devices such as calipers for persons with polio, and splints for a variety of neuro-muscular skeletal disorders (Orthotics).  They are trained to supervise and manage the workshop.

 Diploma holders in P&O are eligible for lateral entry into this course.

 B.Sc. (Medical Sociology)

 The course trains students to become professionals in the field of health system and health policies enabling them to contribute to the holistic care of patients.  The trainees get exposure in the field of social, community, psychological and preventive aspect of diseases which helps them to work in a team setting to improve health systems. Medical Sociology as a field, interacts with Science and Technology studies and social epistemology.

 The course prepares candidates to provide holistic care to elderly persons at home, in hospitals and in the community. At the end of the course, the student will receive a CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY GERIATRIC HEALTH CARE, from the Board of Nursing Education (Nurses’ League), Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI) South India Branch.

Candidates are required to undertake home visits (under supervision) plan and implement care activities for geriatric patients in their home environment and provide holistic care to their clients.
